How often should I be using my camera to become good?

One of my mentors said, “If not in the field three times a week, one should have his or her camera in their hands whenever in front of the TV.”

I still do that and I can prove it from all the images of my living room that I delete.

The goal, he said, was to be able to go into a closed and be able to change film and know where all the buttons are. In the field, the camera has to be second nature. Otherwise, we can’t pay attention to what is going on around us.

I still think that was good advice, even today with so many smart phones in use.

Attend a workshop on making award winning images with only two camera’s.

  1. Indeed! I can draw a parallel to editing video. As I don’t do it often enough, occasionally I must refresh the memory as to keyboard shortcuts etc.

Put another way. How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice.
